What to Expect at Your First Visit
Before any treatment begins, our specialist orthodontists conduct a detailed clinical study of your bite, jaw structure, and tooth development. This typically includes:
Your Orthodontic Examination

A thorough assessment of your teeth, bite, and jaw alignment — evaluating crowding, spacing, and the relationship between the upper and lower arches.

Diagnostic imaging that reveals what's happening beneath the surface — including permanent tooth development, root positions, and bone structure that aren't visible during a visual examination.

Clinical photos of your teeth, bite, and facial profile that form part of your permanent record and support accurate treatment planning.

Where applicable, digital models of your teeth and jaws allow our orthodontists to plan treatment with precision — replacing the traditional plaster moulds most patients remember from the past.

Thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, and mouth breathing can all affect the balance between the jaws and the eruption of permanent teeth. Identifying and addressing these early restores physiologic balance at a stage when correction is most natural.

Deciding on Treatment
Once treatment begins, your appointment frequency will be discussed and confirmed by your orthodontist. In general:
Early appointments are typically scheduled every six to eight weeks, allowing time for gradual tooth movement between visits.
Ongoing appointments are similarly spaced throughout treatment, with each visit used to monitor progress, make any necessary adjustments, and ensure treatment is tracking on schedule.
Throughout your orthodontic treatment, it's important to continue seeing your family dentist for regular cleanings — ideally every three to four months. Consistent dental hygiene care during orthodontic treatment helps prevent decay and gum issues, and supports the best possible outcome when treatment is complete.
